NEWS IN BRIEF FROM THE CLUB COMMITTEE

December 2009

The committee agreed to support the Lakefest celebrations over the weekend of 20-21 March, 2010, by holding an exhibition of photographs at the Sailing Club.
The committee noted that several of our club members had been elected to the committee of the Northern Photographic Federation (Alex as president, Keith as vice president, Barbara as treasurer & Roy on the committee. Andrew is secretary, as delegate for Newcastle club).
Proposed changes to the club’s constitution were discussed.
The committee noted that an Epson V500 scanner has been purchased to scan documents/prints, slides and negatives. It comes with software for automatic dust and scratch removal. Les Porter supplied the scanner at his cost price plus freight ($364.50). The scanner will be used for scanning small prints on competition nights and will be available for loan to club members.
The committee approved the purchase of two additional print stands.
Rule changes for the 2010 competition were finalised.
A draft programme for the 2010 training sessions was approved. This includes new sessions from 4-6pm on the afternoon of each competition night, starting in February.
The committee agreed that our club would stage an exhibition of photographs at the Cessnock library in 2010. Diane Schofield is arranging this.
The committee agreed to provide more substantial prizes for the raffles on competition nights.
The committee agreed that all members should be encouraged to follow both the “letter” and the “spirit” of the new competition rules, particularly in relation to entering substantially the same images in several competitions.

February 2010

The committee has agreed on a set of amendments to the constitution of our club, including a change of name to “The Belmont 16s Photography Club”. A draft of the new constitution is available for download. Members will vote on whether or not to accept this revised constitution at the March club meeting.

To avoid some difficulties experienced in 2009, the committee has agreed that members must show a valid membership card for the Belmont 16s Sailing Club in order to have entries accepted for the club competitions in April or later.

The committee agreed to investigate the purchase a mat cutter that would be made available for loan to members.

The committee considered a request from members of the Merriwa Photography Club to participate in the use of the Coppermine Gallery on our web site. The committee decided that in order to do so, the Merriwa members would have to join our club as normal members.

The committee agreed to investigate ways of improving the lighting of prints on our competition nights.

The committee noted that we currently have 76 financial members and discussed the possible future need to limit membership of the club in order to efficiently manage our monthly competitions. No action to limit membership is being taken at this stage.

The committee noted that the Federation of Camera Clubs (NSW), the FCC, has introduced a system of awards for photographic excellence. There are two awards – a Merit award and an Exceptional Merit award. Each award may be earned by accumulating points in recognised competitions or by submitting a portfolio of images. Full details of the awards will be posted on our club web site.

If you would like the Club Committee to consider any ideas that you have about the operation of the Club or its competitions please discuss the matters with any of the Committee members.
