ELECTRONIC DIGITAL IMAGES (EDI) - 2009
In 2008 the club introduced a new competition specifically for digital (non-print) images. It was known as the “Digital Portfolio”. This competition provided members of the Club with an additional avenue for exhibiting their images—it did NOT replace any of the existing Club monthly competitions. For 2009, this competition has been renamed - it is now known as the EDI competition.
The RULES for the EDI competition for 2009 are set out below.
-
The EDI competition has only one section that includes colour, monochrome, nature, altered reality or any other category.
-
All images must be based on photographs taken by the member entering those images. The original photographs may be digital images or film images that have been scanned. It is permissible to have someone else scan your prints, negatives or slides if you do not have the equipment to do it yourself.
-
There are no restrictions on adjustments or alterations to images. Images may be cropped. Images may be composites (made up of several different original images) provided all images used in the composite were taken by the member entering the image.
-
In each round of the competition members may submit a maximum of SIX images.
-
For 2009 there will be FOUR competition rounds.
-
Images for Round 1 must be submitted no later than the January club meeting. Images for Round 2 must be submitted no later than the April club meeting. Images for Round 3 must be submitted no later than the July club meeting. Images for Round 4 must be submitted no later than the September club meeting.
-
Entries for each round (and your entry form) may be submitted on a CD or thumbdrive or emailed to Andrew Styan who will forward them to the judge who has been selected by the Committee.
- Each image will be judged individually and allocated a point score from 1 to 10. The winner will be the member gaining the most points over the four rounds of the competition.
- You may enter images in the EDI competition that you previously entered in Club competitions (in 2009 or any other year) provided that substantially the same image was NOT entered in the 2008 Digital Portfolio competition.
- Once an Image has been entered in any round of the EDI competition the same image, or one that is substantially the same, cannot be re-entered in a subsequent round (regardless of what points the image scored when first entered).
- Regardless of the points scored by images in the EDI competition they may still be used in normal club competitions provided they meet the rules of those competitions.
-
To make the judging equitable, all images must comply with the following requirements:
-
The maximum image size is 1024 pixels wide (horizontal) and 768 pix els high (vertical) when the image is viewed in its correct orientation. Please check these EXAMPLES so that you are sure you have your images the correct size.
-
The file format must be JPEG.
-
The maximum file size is 700 KB.
-
Images should be in the sRGB colour space.
-
Detailed instructions for getting files into the format, colour space and size specified here are available in a step-by-step tutorial with sample screen shots at this link.
The image files must be named as follows
EDI images
12345-1
12345-2
12345-3
12345-4
12345-5
12345-6 . . . . . with YOUR SKIFFY MEMBERSHIP NUMBER (that’s the number on your plastic membership card) substituted for the 12345.
IMAGES THAT DO NOT MEET THESE REQUIRMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
PLEASE CHECK YOUR IMAGES BEFORE SUBMITTING THEM.
When submitting your images, you also need to complete an entry form that you can download from the link on the left of this page as a PDF file or as Word file. On the ENTRY FORM the images should be listed in the order that corresponds to their naming (12345-1, 12345-2, etc) and each image should be given a title. For example, the file 12345-2 should be listed as the second image on the entry form and might be called "Belmont Sunset". The entry form has a “tear-off” section at the bottom on which you write your name and Skiffy membership number so that your disc/thumbdrive and your point score can be returned to you after the judging.
