Photography experience:
I have been a keen photographer for the past 55 years. At the age of 8 I taped a magnifying glass to the front of my Kodak Box Brownie to photograph seashore life and insects. I have been a Salon judge in the lower Hunter for 40 years.
I was Head of the Instructional Media Unit at Newcastle College of Advanced Education, then the Hunter Institute of Higher Education followed by the University of Newcastle, for about 28 years. I have always had a keen interest in still photography, video production, graphic design and multimedia. In my final position at the University I was in charge of a team of five photographers.
In our new home I had a fully equipped, purpose-designed wet-darkroom capable of printing 6x4cm & 35mm B&W and colour prints. Cameras I have owned include two 4x5 inch plate cameras, a 6x4cm Mamiya system, countless film cameras, and now numerous digital compact and SLR cameras and lenses.
Always an early adopter, I had a Nikon 100 as soon as it came onto the market.
I have written five books on Australian Natural History, the most recent titled "A Photographic Guide to Seashore Life of Australia", published by New Holland Press, now in its 3rd edition.
Since retirement about 8 years ago, Pat and I have been travelling extensively around Australia and now overseas on photographic journeys. We have recently visited Borneo, Thailand, Cambodia, Viet nam, Loas, Kenya and Tanzania. We have many more trips planned.
